For the business environment, we offer network security packages which combine hardware and software solutions to keep your business safe. About Viruses
Within the past few years, the number of computer viruses has increased exponentially. Computer viruses, by definition, are files that replicate themselves. This replication can occur over the internet, over a company network, through opening e-mail or even through sharing disks with each other. Viruses have the potential to damage company data as well as to decrease your computer’s performance all leading to lost productivity and revenue.
Protect Yourself from Viruses
Elementum Solutions stresses the importance of prevention. It has been proven that being proactive in taking preventative measures is much more cost effective than paying for the recovery of you systems and data later.
There are several ways to protect your business from a viral threat:
1. Use a firewall on your system to prevent hacker access to your data as well as block open ports that viruses use to spread.
2. Install an effective network anti-virus solution and be sure to keep current with updates.
3. Check for and install software security updates for your operating system and other applications. As issues become known, software vendors will correct and release “patches” to fix flaws in the coding that hackers and viruses can use to gain access to your system.
4. Be wary of any email containing an attachment. If you don't know the person who sent it to you, then don't open it.
Spyware/Adware
A relatively new issue to computer users is the annoyance of spyware and adware. Spyware is software that tracks your movements on the internet. It will then report statistics, such as sites your visit, ads you click on, subjects you search for, etc. It may also send personal information from your computer such as your e-mail address and other information you may have entered over the course of using your computer. On top of sending out information, spyware often leads to degraded computer performance and lost productivity.

Did You Know?

Avoid P2P and distributed filesharing. Torrent, Kazaa, Gnutella,
Morpheus and at least a dozen other filesharing networks exist. Most
are free. And all are rife with trojans, viruses, worms, adware,
spyware, and every other form of malicious code imaginable. There's no
such thing as safe anonymous filesharing. Avoid it like the plague. |
